
The history of coffee and its name began in Ethiopia, and more specifically in the Kingdom of Kaffa, where, according to legend, a goatherd noticed that the animals became more active after consuming the fruits of the coffee tree.
According to the most reliable sources, the knowledge and consumption of coffee appeared in the 15th century in the Sufi monasteries of Yemen, where coffee arrived from Africa. It then spread to Mecca and Cairo. In Europe, coffee came as a ready-made product from Venice, and the first coffeehouse opened in Italy in 1645.
There are two varieties of coffee and they are called Arabica and robust with the variety Arabica It is the older of the two and is produced mainly in Central and South American countries. It is known for the aroma and flavor it gives to coffee. The robust on the other hand, it has a neutral taste compared to Arabica and a harsher taste, while the plant has almost double the production and thrives at lower altitudes.
