If I don't respect myself, do you respect yourself? How will they respect themselves? How will we live?
Recently, during a discussion, I realized that I have not seen the word RESPECT anywhere on the internet.
Doesn't it sell? Isn't it fashionable? Is it something difficult? It is certainly lacking in many areas. And yet it is essential for a better quality of life.
Looking up the etymology of the word, I found “the positive emotion of appreciation”.
Respect for me is one of the most basic values that leads to the better functioning of social groups. It is not an emotion. It creates the positive feeling of appreciation. However, it is the duty we have to operate fairly and according to the rules of each space in which we find ourselves because we are all human.
This is how we teach the younger generation that this is the only way to function properly as individuals, as men, women and children, as a family, as a school, as a job, as entertainment, as customers, as members of a team, as cities, as countries, as a world.
It is what we must do before demanding anything from anyone.
It is the good example that we must set for everything to become better. And of course, when we act with respect, then we have every right to demand it and not accept anything less in behavior from others.
A necessary condition for showing respect without straying in any other direction is to know the rules and limits, both our own and those of others, as well as the groups and spaces that host us.
For example, out of respect I don't speak badly to older people. But out of respect for myself, I will state my opinion even if it is contrary to that of an older person, even if it means the tone of the conversation will rise.
A parent who operates without respect for all members of the family, no matter how much they demand it, will never have it.
Children who have not learned in their daily lives to respect rules, boundaries and people cannot function properly in any social and age group. If they are lucky enough to find a teacher along the way who inspires respect and is willing to teach them, then perhaps as adults they will have a better fate.
Respect is earned, not imposed, but in order to experience it daily, you must first of all learn what it means, then how you will incorporate it into your life, and finally when and in what way you will demand it from others.
It is not easy at all to learn to respect, especially in a society where there are no values, rules and boundaries. My New Way Of Life has respect as a basic value in relationships with all people so that we can ALL have a better quality of life!
